1. My interest of research is smart phone UI/UX, and I have industrial experience on Linux, OpenWRT, and APP development. Can I make use of my experience to conduct human ICT research?
==> Each member of the H-project team in H-Lab. plays a role in each of the following three areas: 1) platform planning (story-boarding and application development) UX, 2) prototyping (information, telecommunication, mechanical, material, bio-medical engineering), 3) Aesthetic design. Therefore, each member of project team is thought to be helpful in the team project for developing smart care products.
2. I'm aware of that the department recruits human resources from various majors. Is there any focused interview process during admission procedures?
==> The review committee will see whether the applicant have potential to contribute Smart Care application. We would like to recruit students who have a strong motivation and passion for prototyping smart health care (wearable) devices, hopefully with any ex-experience on ICT-based convergence.
3. For admission to the Department of Human ICT convergence, what is the minimum requirement on background knowledge? My major is design, but I have no background on cognitive science, HCI, or ergonomics. Do I need to study them in advance before admission?
==> I think you know the importance of graphic / industrial design in the application of ICT-based Smart Care Service and UI/ UX. In order to be successful as a designer, students should expand his/or capacity building toward design management, human-centered design built on embodied cognition. Please visit bulletin board of department website to see what the current research subject is, and also refer to the courses opened for students.
For example, a student majoring arts attends the course such as U-Health Care, Human ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Seminar(opened in Dept. of HumanICT Convergence), Global HCI, UX Design Fundamentals (opened in Dept. of Interaction Science), and advanced cognitive psychology (opened in Dept. of Psychology).
4. The department offers three project areas of research. How is the member of the project group selected? Is it selected according to the undergraduate major or interests? And I wonder about how to lead the project.
==> The department considers diversity seriously. Creativity comes out from the people with a variety of backgrounds with different experiences. An interdisciplinary project team proposes a project topic after executing team activity (such as brainstorming). For example, team project can be health care services/ wearable UI / UX for elderly people or disabled children and infants. During the period of a variety of postgraduate courses, students perform team projects, and present papers through the International Conference so as to cultivate communication skills and creative leadership.
5.I would like to ask about scholarships. There are four semester scholarship + Incentives. What is the incentive and is there any other Scholarship?
==> We offer 5,000,000 won scholarships per semester for two years. Also, there is a RA scholarship to the students who participate in research projects in H-Lab. In this way, we try to support the full tuition.
Students who receives a scholarship 5,000,000 won from government fund (Creative and Industrial Convergence Specialized Graduate Program funded from Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy) is not allowed to receive any other national scholarships such as BK+. However, students will be able to receive additional labor if they perform extra research project from government and industries.
